Sonic Overload 4/22/13

Martin Richard. Lu Lingzi. Krystle Campbell. Sean Collier—four individuals murdered in last week’s terrorist attacks, the first three at the finish line of the Boston Marathon. Sean Collier, an MIT police officer, was gunned down in Cambridge and that set off the series of the wild series of events (that’s the only way I can describe it), beginning with a car-jacking, that led the two suspects, brothers Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsanraev, to flee to Watertown. Tamerlan was killed and, after a manhunt that lasted all-day Friday, Dzhokhar was apprehended when hiding in a boat in someone’s yard. As of this writing, he’s hospitalized in very serious condition, although he’s conscious and he’s been charged with a number of crimes, including two federal counts of using a weapon of mass destruction. Four dead and over 180 injured, including an MBTA police officer who was wounded on Friday.

I don’t know what I can add here, but Boston will bounce back. As Red Sox DH David “Big Papi” Ortiz said on Saturday at Fenway Park, this is OUR fucking city. And nobody is going to take away our freedom.” While some of the moral scolds took offense at his choice of an adjective, even the local FCC operative said it was OK and no action is going to be taken against the outlets who broadcast it.

I did two hours of Boston punk and hardcore on last week’s live Sonic Overload on Stench Radio and plan to post it in the archive sometime this week. There’s some Boston content here, as well, and you hear Big Papi’s words at the start of the show.

If you would like to make a donation to help the victims of these attacks, go to The One Fund.
