Sonic Overload 7/11/16

I pretty much took a break from the news over the weekend, opting to check out some good punk shows with Infest, Siege (!), Dropdead and others, both in Cambridge and in Boston. And except for a brief mention by Dropdead, I don’t think I heard any of the bands say a word about it. Not that I’ve forgotten the deaths of Alton Sterling in Baton Rouge or Philando Castile in Minnesota or the five officers killed in Dallas or the shooter, Micah Johnson, being blown up by a police bomb. While it’s difficult to muster much sympathy for him (none, in fact), I still have an issue with the police using military weapons.  I play a song called “Long Hot Summer” by the Narcs, about police violence against black people in 1964 and, 50+ years later, here we are still talking about it. It could very well be a long, hot summer and worse fall.

By the way, not as much new music this week. I had to record the show on my laptop since my desktop seems to have finally met its demise and it makes it harder to program my iPod for the digital tracks I play… I still got a few on there.
