Sonic Overload 2/13/12

I wanted a pleasant birthday weekend so I couldn’t bring myself to put sift through the various reports from the annual CPAC (Conservative Political Action Committee) convention in DC. It’s basically a Klan rally with people wearing business suits instead of white robes. Think I’m joking? A couple of years ago, it was co-sponsored by the racist John Birch Society and there were appearances by white nationalists. What little I did catch was completely stomach-turning. This is a group of people who want to turn back the clock on any progress that’s happened in this country for at least the past 100 years. I don’t think I want to discuss it any further. Besides, I just ate.

Yes, I weigh in on Whitney Houston’s death. You’ll probably be able to figure out where and I hope I’ve articulated things the way I meant to because I sometimes have a tough time talking off the cuff on this show. That’s why I don’t talk that much and just stick with music, for the most part. I was never a fan of Whitney Houston—not one note, in fact—but I also don’t take the “good riddance, she was a druggie loser” stance. My wife works in human services and knows about the debilitating grip of drug addiction. I also know that it’s another celebrity death that people will pay way too much attention to. I’m done with it. If there’s a report on a show I’m watching, I’ll change the station or shut it off.

And, oh yeah, Happy Valentine’s Day! It’s a pretty fast-paced show this week. Those of you who’ve been missing the hardcore lately will be pleased...
