Sonic Overload 8/9/10

A bit of confusion to start this week’s show, but you’ll have to listen to find out what I’m talking about. I would like to apologize for the distortion on the mike, occasionally. I set the volume too high. It’s been hot as hell here, again. 90s and humid and I threatened to do the show in my underwear (I think I mentioned the possibility of doing that a few weeks ago) but I came to my senses. And people were demanding photographic evidence that I did, indeed, do the show in my skivvies so I abandoned the idea. You should be grateful for that.

Sonic Overload 8/2/10

The week of this show marked the 65th anniversary of the US bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan—a tragic event that will hopefully never be repeated. Of course, the small attempts to reduce this country’s nuclear arsenal are usually met with intense derision by bloodthirsty conservatives. The Democrats aren’t much better—look no further than more billions in funding to feed the military/industrial complex and continue the pointless wars in Iraq, Afghanistan and now Pakistan.

And this week’s show is dedicated to the memory of original Fear bass-player Derf Scratch (born Frederick Milner), who died last week at the age of 59...

But I don’t dwell on these matters—no heavy subject matter, otherwise. Just a collection of songs (once again tilted towards oldies, I suppose) that will hopefully shake your walls a bit...

Sonic Overload 7/26/10

This week's show features the Sonic Overload debut of a new tea-bagger national anthem by Krista Branch, although it’s a “remixed” version of it. I’ll bet you’re just waiting with bated breath. Chest-thumping music while we wait for the “judgment day” that she mentions.

Yes, this week’s show is a little self-indulgent. I play a few songs that could be categorized as “classic rock” (or “dad rock,” as my friend Angela calls it when she wants to needle me), along with some new wave and other decidedly non-punk sounds. Deal with it. Besides, are you going to complain about any show that features one of the greatest songs of all time? You’ll have to listen to find out which one that is, although a perusal of the playlist shouldn’t make it too difficult to pick out.
