Sonic Overload 10/28/13

Some scary sounds this week, as Halloween approaches. Perhaps the scariest song is the Velvet Underground’s “Sister Ray,” stretching out over 17 minutes, taking up a good chunk of the last segment of the show. That song now holds the record (pun intended) for the longest one ever played on Sonic Overload. And it goes out in memory of the one and only Lou Reed, who passed away over the weekend at the age of 71. A true musical pioneer who always challenged, provoked and cajoled and did so with a combination of caustic intent and a pure, sometimes sentimental rock ‘n roll sensibility. I think that sums it up.
