Sonic Overload 1/30/12

At the top of the third segment, there’s about a minute of audio taken from a YouTube video entitled “The GOP’s Racial Politics,” posted by ThinkProgress.org. The video’s about 3 ½ minutes long and features despicable comments from the likes of Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum, Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck and others, along with analysis by other pundits. It’s a tirade against food stamps, social welfare programs and, of course, the current occupant of the White House. That’s just for starters. As I say on the show, a lot of these people aren’t even putting up the pretense of tolerance anymore. I was trying to come up with a good song to follow the clip. “Voodoo Economics” seemed like an appropriate choice, since it’s about the supply side voodoo/up by your bootstraps/you’re on your own crap that’s been foisted on this country for the past 30-plus years and often delivered with not just a single race card but the whole fucking deck. I’ve discussed it before. As I’ve also said, it’s going to be a long year. But I won’t let it consume the show.
