Sonic Overload 5/6/13

This week’s show goes out in memory of Slayer guitarist Jeff Hanneman, who passed away last week at 49. Slayer are one of those bands that even non-metalheads seem to like. That’s probably because they transcend genre. Their ferocity and intensity appeal to anyone who appreciates loud, fast, go-for-broke music of any style. I could very easily have played the entire Reign In Blood album and thought about doing just that—though not too seriously. I wanted to represent some of their other records from their 80s era.

There’s nothing from Hell Awaits or the Haunting The Chapel EP (although there are some killer songs on each) but besides the three songs from R.I.B., there are tracks from South of Heaven and Seasons In The Abyss. I just wanted to stick with the classics, the albums that form the cornerstone of their legacy of brutality (hmm... where have I heard that before?) R.I.P. Jeff...
