Sonic Overload 10/14/13

“Don’t push me ‘cause I’m close to the edge... I’m tryin’ not to lose my head...” That’s from the last song on this week’s show. Not punk—it’s hip-hop but one of the greatest hip-hop tracks of all time and, over the course of 7 minutes, presenting a striking image of inner-city reality. Some of the people who most certainly ARE being affected by the ongoing government shutdown. Just this past week, stores were unable to take food stamps from customers in many states and you had the typical cruel assholes with the “why don’t get a job?” tripe. It’s hard not to lose your head when hearing that shit.

And, oh yeah, it’s Columbus Day. Some call it a celebration of genocide... and those people probably have a point. I mark the occasion by playing a Columbus Day perennial by On x Alert.

But it isn’t all negativity. Far from it... it’s hard to feel completely down after watching dramatic wins by both the Patriots and Red Sox this past weekend. A shade over two hours and ten minutes this week. Enjoy...
