Sonic Overload 1/27/14

Last night was the Grammy Awards and, no, I didn’t watch it. Maybe I’m an old fart (true!) but I haven’t heard many of the artists or only a familiarity with their names. I’d never heard of Lorde, who won Record of the Year, until I got the new issue of Rolling Stone last week and was greeted with front cover photo of a young lady wearing a Cramps t-shirt. Anyway, turns out she’s considered something of an outsider artist... quirky, smarter, not fitting the typical Top 40 mold but her big hit “Royals” does nothing for me. The only band who won a Grammy who I’ve played on the show is Black Sabbath and that’s not very frequent and certainly not anything from last year’s album, which seemed bloated and plodding.
