Sonic Overload 6/6/16

32 years old is too young for anyone to die and that’s how old my friend Brandon Farrell was last week when he passed away. I’d imagine any regular listener of Sonic Overload has a pretty good idea who he was because all of his bands have been in regular rotation (DJ talk!) for over ten years and I always gave the releases on his No Way label plenty of airtime as well. That’s the case this week—the first set features some of his bands and the last has an array of No Way discs (all on vinyl—no CDs). I did a more comprehensive tribute on last week’s Old FX Punk Radio show and that will be available for download this week on the Sonic Overload archive page.

This show is also dedicated to The Greatest, Muhammad Ali, who passed away over the weekend at 74, after 30+ years of suffering from Parkinson’s Disease. I don’t usually go for hero worship but Ali was one of mine. A great champion outside the ring as well as inside. He was more than just a boxer. If you’re young and never got the chance to see Ali during his prime, there’s no shortage of material on YouTube and you should also watch “When We Were Kings,” a documentary about Ali’s fight with George Foreman in Zaire in 1974.
