Sonic Overload 10/10/11

Occupy Wall Street continues and rallies and protests have sprung up all around the country. There’s also the inevitable backlash, mainly from Republican politicians and pundits (big shock). One of the presidential candidates, Herman Cain, had the audacity to say "Don't blame Wall Street," Cain said. "Don't blame the big banks. If you don't have a job and you're not rich, blame yourself.” He also said that being gay is a choice and has a radical tax agenda that would include a 9% sales tax on everything, including food—of course, this will affect poor people a lot more than others. I don’t have the time or space to spell out his viewpoints but it’s made him a darling of Tea Bag Nation.

In the meantime, two former Bank of America executives received severance packages totaling about $11 million between them and that’s while the company is laying off 30,000 people and will start charging fees to use their debit cards. You couldn’t have a more perfect example of what’s wrong with this country.

And, oh yeah, it’s Columbus Day and that’s marked at the beginning of the show, with the “Reconsider Columbus Day” public service announcement that you can see on YouTube and a few songs about how indigenous people suffered after America was “discovered.”

Despite all this weighty subject matter, I don’t dwell upon it all that much. I think you’ll find this week’s show provides a couple of hours of loud ass-kickin’ fun that will take your mind off all the crap I mentioned...
