Sonic Overload 7/15/13

I’d hope you detect a theme with some of this week’s musical selections, especially during the first set. To reinforce the point, I begin with some audio from Democracy Now. I’m talking, of course, of how George Zimmerman got away with murder (or at least manslaughter) when he was acquitted in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, an unarmed black teenager who Zimmerman gunned down. Do your own research if you want, reach your own conclusions but, in my heart, I think it was a gross miscarriage of justice.

For those of you being affected by yet another heatwave, I hope you find a way to keep cool. And I hope the climate change deniers are suffering although I’m sure they’re not in their air-conditioned offices and mansions.

Yes, that’s an Elton John song you see ending the show. It came out 40 years ago this week and it still kicks my ass almost as much as it did the first time I heard it. Who says Elton didn’t have a bit of pure rock ‘n roll in his blood?
